Memories, Milestones & Miracles...

January 2018 is a special month for me as it marks a significant milestone – it is 10 years since I opened my practice.  An entire decade has passed since taking my first tentative steps into this whole new world.

At the time I was working in Property Management, managing 42 holiday houses in the hustling and bustling metropolis of Queenstown.  Although it was a side-step from my career in sales and marketing, it was precisely that – a side step.  It was not carrying me forward.

I’d always had an interest in wellbeing.  What stressed-out, hyped-up sales and marketing type didn’t!  And my interest leaned towards the natural - albeit, at times, in the form of grapes in a bottle.  Somewhere in the midst of the years preceding 2008 I’d even taken action to skill myself in this arena - dabbling in nutrition, studying anatomy & physiology and practising newly acquired Reiki and CranioSacral techniques as often as I could.   

So what prompted the leap?

In the quiet hours of the morning, before shops open and the day gives way to people and activity,  I was wandering through Queenstown Mall, enjoying a moment of calm on my way to work.  In my periphery I caught sight of a window display and my attention was drawn to a simple wall hanging.  Sitting quietly, centre stage it said: 

WHAT WOULD YOU DO  IF YOU KNEW YOU COULD NOT FAIL?
 
My answer was immediate.  And it was simple.
 
I WOULD OPEN MY OWN HOLISTIC HEALTH PRACTICE.
 
In that moment, as clear as can be, I came face to face with the stark realisation that fear was holding me back.  

I continued to work, opening my emails to read a message from a guest complaining (rather impolitely) that the bed was too short for his 6 foot 7 frame. 

I thought to myself “what am I doing?”

OK, what I really thought was “**** this!”

Tapping at the keys on my computer I pressed print on my resignation letter and marched into my boss’s office before I could change my mind.  After reading the letter she looked at me and said “If you are leaving to do something that makes you happy, then you have my blessing.  Otherwise, it is a waste”.
 
It was not a waste.
 
10 years on I am in awe of the journey I have been on.  An unimaginable journey.  One of discovery, expansion, destruction, construction and re-creation.  I have been re-born more times that I can remember.  And I LOVE who I have allowed myself to become. 

Along the way I have meet and had the absolute privilege of working with and supporting the most astonishing array of people.  People from ALL walks of life: farmers, electricians, writers, osteopaths, sales people, managers, teachers, police, administrators, retiree’s, new born babies, toddlers, teenagers, journalists, naturopaths, yoga instructors, corporates, professional sports people, chiropractors, nurses, scientists, artists….and all manner of healers, light-workers and practitioners. 

When I say it has been an absolute privilege, I do not say it lightly.  I mean it from the depth of my being.  I have witnessed, experienced and learnt so much from every single person who has allowed me to be a part of their journey and I am grateful.

To every one of you – whether we have meet in a private session, a gathering, a workshop, a retreat or a tour – thank you for allowing me to see your strength AND your vulnerability.  Thank you for allowing me to see your beauty AND your ugly.  Thank you for revealing the parts of yourself that you love AND the parts that you don’t.

Thank you for being brave enough to walk your path and courageous enough to be with yourself – the good, the bad and the darn right ugly.
