Anakawa is a very unique and special place. A place where nature's rhythms are embraced and you are free to spread your wings, lie in the long grass, wander through the fields, enjoy the gardens or explore the nearby river. By night, you can sit beneath the moon, gaze at the stars or snuggle in with the books and games on hand. Open from late September to April, The Sanctuary is available for private retreat from one to three people.
Set on the brow of a hill, with expansive views in every direction, our cabin sits alongside our straw-bale home. Nestled amid 12.5 acres of organic gardens, fields and trees the property is entirely off-grid - serviced by its own eco waste-water system, rain water collection and solar panels. It is a haven of calm, far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life - yet less than an hours drive from central Queenstown.
It is place to re-charge, rest and reflect amid natural beauty and simple comfort.
The Sanctuary is a cosy space with crystals lovingly placed inside the walls and floor. It is heated by a bio-fuel fire which uses a plant based fuel. Right next door is a simple kitchen, with 3 burner camp stove and fridge. Here too you will find bathroom facilities with separate toilet and a spacious light-filled shower.

Please note, Anakawa is entirely off-grid so you will need your own mobile phone and data if you wish to stay connected during your stay. Connection with Nature and Spirit included free!
Living off-grid has many advantages but please know there are also lifestyle considerations. We ask you to be mindful of power consumption and water usage during your stay. And remember, this is a harmonious space in a rural setting. The only bright lights and techni-coloured wizardry you'll find are within YOU!
